A Glocalization Cultural Based Course Book for Intercultural Understanding

This book focuses on glocalization as a phenomenon in intercultural understanding. Although it is defined as fitting global to local cultures, glocalization is more than that. Glocalization sends a message of harmony between the global culture that is superior and the local that is inferior. Through glocalization, the interaction of superior global culture and inferior local culture can be in harmony. To this point, it is assumed that internalizing intercultural competencies using intercultural communication has been going sufficiently well.

With this understanding of glocalization, this book tries to open insights about it and topics related to glocalization. The book contains two parts. Part one describes four basic concepts: intercultural understanding, intercultural communication, intercultural competencies, glocalization. Part two consists of 6 chapters concerning cultural values with topics such as Rice in Fast Food Restaurant Menus, Right or Left, Rendang Burger, please! It is Time to Wear Batik Jeans, What’s on the News? CNN for Indonesia, Klepon Doughnut Tastes Delicious. The cultural values are to be aware, respectful, confident, interactive, empathy, adaptive, and initiative.

Upon finishing studying this book, it is hoped that students will intensively promote harmony. It is an ultimate goal of this book to encourage students to live in harmony in which Unity in Differences Binneka Tunggal Ika and being moderate in religious practices are intensively implemented in daily lives.
